About the tool

Online PDF metadata viewer and remover

A PDF carries more than the pages you can see. The info dictionary stores the title, author, subject, creator application and producer software, together with the creation and modification dates. An embedded XMP packet and unique document IDs can reveal edit history and the tools used along the way.

ExifTool.net reads all of this directly in your browser. Open a PDF and you get a complete, searchable report grouped by category, with a privacy score that shows how much the document reveals about its author and its workflow.

Because the file is processed locally with JavaScript, nothing is uploaded to a server. That makes it safe to inspect client contracts, internal reports and invoices before you send them, and it works on desktop, tablet and mobile.

FAQ

What metadata is stored inside a PDF?

The info dictionary holds the title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer plus creation and modification dates. PDFs can also contain an XMP packet, document IDs and application-private PieceInfo data.

Does cleaning change how the PDF looks?

No. Only the metadata is removed. Pages, text, images and fonts are left exactly as they were.

Can I remove the author name from a PDF?

Yes. Press Clean file to strip the author, creator and producer, or use the editor to replace them with your own values.

Does it work for large PDFs?

Yes, up to 250 MB per file. Cleaning rewrites the metadata structures only, so it stays fast for big documents.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. ExifTool.net processes everything locally with JavaScript in your browser. Your documents never leave your device.
