Terms of Service

1. The service

ExifTool.net provides free online tools to view, edit and remove metadata from images, documents, audio and video files. The tools run in your browser. We may add, change or remove features at any time without notice.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country) to use the Site. If you use the Site on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind it to these Terms.

3. Your files and responsibility

• You retain all rights in the files you open. We claim no ownership or licence over them, and they are not uploaded to us.
• You are responsible for having the right to open, modify and share any file you use with the tool.
• Always keep a backup of your original files. Editing or removing metadata changes a file, and you use the tool at your own risk.
• Removing metadata may not remove all identifying information. Visible content, file names, embedded text, watermarks or pixel-level patterns may still reveal information.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Site to break the law, infringe the rights of others, or conceal evidence of unlawful activity.
• Use the tool to falsify provenance, forge authorship, or mislead others about the origin, date or location of a file in order to commit fraud or deception.
• Attempt to disrupt, overload, scrape at scale, reverse engineer or gain unauthorised access to the Site or its infrastructure.
• Interfere with advertising, including generating invalid impressions or clicks, or using automated means to do so.
• Introduce malware or use the Site to distribute harmful or illegal content.

5. Intellectual property

The Site’s design, text, graphics, logos and software (other than open-source components governed by their own licences) are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by intellectual property laws. You may use the Site for personal or internal business purposes, but you may not copy, republish or resell it without our written permission.

6. Third-party content and advertising

The Site may display advertising and link to third-party sites. We do not control or endorse third-party content, products or services, and we are not responsible for them. Your dealings with advertisers are solely between you and them. See our Advertising Disclosure for details.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

The Site is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, or uninterrupted and error-free operation. We do not warrant that metadata detection or removal will be complete for every file or format. See also our Disclaimer.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ExifTool.net and its owners, contributors and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill or revenue, arising from your use of or inability to use the Site. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Site will not exceed USD 100. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Site, your files, or your breach of these Terms.

10. Termination

We may suspend or block access to the Site at any time, including for suspected abuse or breach of these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Site’s operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory consumer rights you have under the laws of your country of residence. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve any issue informally.

13. General

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and other legal pages, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Site. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
